I have been teaching math and science (and a few other subjects!) for seven years in addition to receiving my Masters degree in Teacher Leadership. Outside of the classroom, I have experience coaching Junior High track, basketball, robotics, High School speech and more. When you walk into my classroom, you will immediately sense the structure, rigor and humorous disposition I intentionally plan for to ensure student learning and success.
I know some students can't believe a teacher has a life outside of school, but I do! The three loves of my life are my husband, Damian, my son, Joseph, and my dog, Levi. We all enjoy spending time outside (fishing, berry picking, hiking) or traveling to see our family downstates.
One of my personal hobbies, though, is baking. I believe I have finally mastered the classic white loaf of bread along with Chicago style deep-dish pizza. I also enjoy making other "made-from-scratch" items in the kitchen. For example, I've experimented with a wide variety of jams using ingredients I harvested myself while in the Alaskan tundra or the backyard of my parent's house in Michigan. Oh, and every Sunday is Pancake Sunday at my house!
Another personal hobby of mine is art. I have a deep appreciation for the arts especially its uses in education and its application in social emotional learning.
Currently, I am into watching the TV show Criminal Minds, though, I also enjoy just about any other popular show (Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, That 70's Show, etc.). I have just downloaded the audiobook version of Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollins to listen to while in the kitchen. And my favorite music genre of choice right now would have to be indie-blues such as The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Fleet Foxes and more.
